Body Butter

Hi, everyone! As I said before, I am going to share a little bit about the body butter that I bought from The Body Shop!
I first heard about The Body Shop from a Youtube video. Vloggers were raving about body butter from The Body Shop and I HAD to have some. After I watched the video, I went on their website and began looking through all the body scrubs, body butters, and more. I then filled up my bag, became distracted, and forgot about it. I know, how idiotic of me.
While Gary and I were in Nashville, he suggested we stop by Cool Springs Mall. I sat there for a second, mulling over the fact that Gary was the one suggesting us go to the mall (which never happens), then quickly said yes! I looked up the stores in the mall and came across you guessed it, The Body Shop! We hopped out of the car, made our way to the second floor, and entered The Body Shop. The sweet smells of body butters overwhelmed me and I screwed off every lid in that place and smelled every. single. scent. while the sales associate stood there and watched me and then proceeded to make Carrie Bradshaw references at me. Never had that one before! Anyways.
I had to restrain myself from buying the whole store and ending up buying the body butter duo in vanilla and the mango body butter.
Let me just say, this stuff smells SO good. I wish I could put a scratch and sniff sticker on my blog for all of you to smell, but hey, I can't do everything.

First, I want to talk about the mango. The mango scented body butter is my signature smell for summer. The scent is not by any means overwhelming, but somehow it seems to make the whole room smell good. If that makes sense? The butter is so hydrating and leaves your skin smelling good all day. I call that a win win. :)

The vanilla duo body butter is different than the mango. The duo has two different body butters in it: one is for normal skin areas and the other is for dry skin areas. I don't know if you can tell from the picture, but the dry skin area butter (on the right) is thicker than the normal skin area butter. Like I've said before, I have really dry skin, so the thicker butter for the dry skin areas has really helped moisturize those spots.

Have you tried body butter from The Body Shop?
What's your signature summer smell?

Weekend

This weekend was a blast! On Friday, I spent all day at the lake for a youth event with my church. We swam, jet skied, kayaked, paddle boarded, boated, tubed, ate really good food, and closed the night out with a bonfire and s'mores. I woke up Saturday morning with a sore back, neck, arms, and legs! I like to think it was the result of a great day! Saturday, I spent the morning watching 24 with my mom while drinking a cup of coffee. Later that night, I watched Harry Potter with Gary and my sister Maggie, snuggled with my pup, and caught up on some reading (I'm in the midst of reading the Harry Potter series). Yesterday, we went to church, then to lunch with some friends. Gary and I went for a bike ride and then we spent the rest of the night at my house eating pita, hummus, fruit, salami, and mozzarella (yum!), and watching Tangled with Maggie (Mag and I cry every. single. time.--this time was no different).
This past weekend has reminded me of what summer is all about--spending time with family and friends, enjoying the hot weather, and staying up late!

This upcoming week, I am meeting with an advisor at college, rearranging my room, working on a DIY to share with you all, and hopefully launching my first online shop! I'll keep you updated with the details.

Have you read the Harry Potter books?
Have you seen Tangled?
What does summer remind you of?

Happy Monday!

Saturday/9

On Saturdays, I'm going to share my favorites from the past week. Whether my favorites are thoughts, recipes, Bible verses, songs, movies, people, looks, food, etc. Whatever they may be, I am going to share them on Saturdays! You can see my last post here.

First off, I want to take a minute and talk about how great the weather has been! The past few days have been SO nice out. I'm talking like 70 degrees in the morning and 85 degrees during the day. Can't get much better than that!
Now to my favorites from this week..

Purchase: The Body Shop's body butter. Oh. My. Word. Both of these are crazy good! I'm going to do a whole post on them next week because I think they're so fabulous that they deserve it. Be on the look out for that!

Song: I'm throwing it back today with George Strait! My favorite song this week has been "Give It All We Got Tonight" by George Strait. This song will be at my wedding--I love it so much!

Look: This past week, I've been obsessed with funky pants! I think they are the cutest and I can't get enough of them!

Nashville Day Trip

Hi, everyone! I'm back today with a few photos from Gary and I's day trip to Nashville! I promise I won't go over board :)
While we were there, we visited the Tennessee State Museum, Baja Burrito, downtown Nashville, and Cool Springs Mall.
Our first stop was the Tennessee State Museum. I highly recommend this place! We spent over 2 1/2 hours walking through this 60,000 sq. ft. building full of history. There are three levels to this museum: the Upper Level which includes the historical eras of the First Tennesseans, European Exploration and Frontier, and the Age of Jackson, the Mezzanine which featured the Antebellum, and the Lower Level which continues with the Antebellum, Civil War and Reconstruction, and the New South.
Here are a few photos from the museum:

 Pipes from the First Tennesseans

Guns (Gary insisted I take as many pictures as I could of all the guns, but this is the only one I'm putting up :)

Handwritten arithmetic textbook from 1804

I really liked the large paintings (sorry for the glare!)

Frontier Justice-this display had a story with it: there was a man who stole horses and he was brought to justice in the stalks. His ears were pinned to the wood and cut off and his cheeks were branded-one cheek with the letter "H" and the other with the letter "T", standing for "Horse Thief." How painful!

This was probably the most interesting part for me-a mummy that was brought to Tennessee in 1860. You could see the cloth decaying. It was really neat!

After we visited the museum, we went to Baja Burrito for lunch. If you are in the Nashville area, you have to go! It was SO GOOD. Gary and I were full for the rest of the day. Make sure you get the Baja Fruit Tea!

After we ate our weight in burritos, chips, and queso, we headed to downtown Nashville!
We walked the Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge over the Cumberland River right next to LP Field:

No trip is complete without shopping! After we walked downtown Nashville, Gary and I made our way to Cool Springs Mall where we purchased some goodies from The Body Shop. I'll share more on that later :)

We had a blast during our time in Nashville!

Day Trip/Review

Because it poured yesterday in Nashville and almost all of our plans were outside, Gary and I decided to stay and move our day trip today. So, we are on our way to Nashville! Since I hadn't planned on being out of town today, I am going to leave you with a really small product review.

Today, I am going to share a few things about Maybelline's Coverstick Concealer
First off, I am really into concealers. Every time I hear about a new one, I feel as though I have to try it right away. So, I rushed into Target and bought this. I was hopeful of this concealer because I love Maybelline, and I read that it was waterproof (which is always a plus in my book). However, I found the opposite of this product.
I don't know if it's because it's in stick form, but it's very thick and chalky. It doesn't blend well, and it makes concealing all those things you want to conceal very obvious. The plus that I found in this product is the packaging. I like that it looks like a lipstick, and it's easy to just throw in your purse, but at the same time, it's as if the thick stick form prevents the concealer from having blend-able and smooth coverage.

Have you tried Maybelline's Coverstick Concealer?
What's your favorite concealer?
Let me know what you think in the comments below!

Purchase: A few weeks ago, I was on the hunt for a new lotion. I stopped by Target and found Vaseline's cocoa radiant lotion. Oh my word. This lotion smells SO good. It's also really hydrating and keeps your skin soft. I bought the 3 fl. oz for around $2 (what a steal!).

Quote: This quote made me realize what a negative person I can be sometimes. This week, I've been trying my best to focus on how I can choose how I react and feel towards life.

Hobby: Gary and I hammocked last night. I can't get over how relaxing it is!

Food: Gary and I went to a new Asian restaurant last night and I ordered the chicken fried rice (surprise surprise :) and it was so good! Better than P.F. Chang's good.

Headband

Hey, everyone! I have a DIY for you today!
This summer, I have been in love with headbands. I can't get enough of them! But, at the same time, I think it's nuts that some retailers ask $15 per headband (maybe it's just me?). So, I sat down in front of my sewing machine and went to work. Let's get started!

[Not only did I made this headband out of an old dress that didn't fit me anymore, but I hoard have a stockpile of materials (thread, needles, pins, fabric, etc.) to use in my room. Thus, I spent zero dollars on this DIY]

Materials needed:
  • Sewing machine
  • Knit fabric/poly blend/whatever you have laying around
  • Pins
  • Fabric scissors
  • Elastic
  • Thread that matches what you're sewing
First step: I cut my dress in half:

Second step: cut two strips measuring 4 inches x 18 inches (or, however you like):

Third step: fold each piece in half and pin:

Fourth step: sew each piece where you pinned:

Fifth step: lay the two pieces to make an X:

Sixth step: fold over each piece to where they are linked together:

Seventh step: sew the ends of each piece of fabric so the ends aren't open (I also ended up folding over the sides of the fabric and sewing them down for a softer looking edge).
Eighth step: take a piece of elastic and pin one side and measure the length around your head.
Ninth step: once you find a size that fits, sew the elastic on the headband:

Tenth step: wear!
