Hi, everyone! I know, I know, it's been such a long time since I've posted. I've really missed blogging, but you know, life just throws 10 pound literature books at you with environmental science class and lab on top. Kidding. Kind of.
I just completed my summer term of school and have really lacked ideas except ones relating to the Victorian Age and the Scientific Method. However, I've been thinking about my blog - the content, the photos, the direction - all of it. And, I've decided that the point of this blog was not to shove products in people's faces and go on and on about beauty because let's face it, I don't have enough time or money to support a beauty blog. I'm still in college and living paycheck to paycheck, ya know? However, I do know that I have what it takes to talk about my life and all things I love because that's what a blog really gets down to isn't it? What you like and what you enjoy. And I've realized that I always wanted my little space to be a lifestyle blog, but I never thought my life was interesting enough or that my life wasn't as great as another girl's. But.. those days are over!
I've always been striving to become my own person and to figure out exactly who Carrie is and what she likes, enjoys, dreams of, etc. and I've been finding her all along in my own way.
I've realized that I spend my days working my tail off at work, going to school, and studying. But, at night, I dream of one day working for myself and read articles upon articles about how I can implement my ideas and my dreams to finally make them a reality. My new blog is one step closer to that dream.
I'm not going anywhere - I'm just working on my turning my dreams into something tangible.
Come adventure with me at carrieelise.com.

Birchbox/8
amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo | Full-size, $21
What: Weightless spray that refreshes sans residue, in the brand's signature obliphica scent.
How: Shake can and hold 8-10 inches from head. Spritz roots, then massage into hair.
My Thoughts: I have been using the same dry shampoo for a few years now. This amika one though, may be changing that. This dry shampoo, albeit dispenses white, smells beautiful. Also, the bottle is just too cute! I will definitely be doing a full review on this one, so watch this space.
Benefit Cosmetics The POREfessional | Full-size, $31
What: This sheer, oil-free balm minimizes pores, smooths skin, and works with all skin tones.
How: Apply a thin layer under makeup, or dap a pea-sized amount over makeup for touch-ups.
My Thoughts: I've been wanting to try this for some time now, but could never fork over the money for it because my pores are pretty tame - I just have a few on my nose. I'm so glad I received this in my box, so I can finally try it!
Laura Geller Beauty Color Drenched Lip Gloss | Full-size, $19
What: This richly pigmented gloss delivers mirror-bright shine and loads of moisture.
How: Glide wand over lips to apply. Layer over your lipstick for a custom color.
My Thoughts: Lip glosses always scare me at first - I'm more of a balm gal myself. But, I applied a small amount on my lips and then smoothed it with my ring finger. This application thinned the product out and created a nice wash of color.
Marcelle Clay Mask | Full-size, $15
What: Velvety treatment loaded with natural ingredients to instantly clarify and brighten skin.
How: Smooth onto clean skin, avoiding eye area. Wait 10 minutes, then gently rinse.
My Thoughts: This mask almost feels like a gel. I'm really looking forward to trying this as I have a love for any type of masks.
Naobay Oxygenating Cream Moisture | Full-size, $36
What: Made with avocado and olive oils, this 98% natural cream nourishes and hydrates skin.
How: Smooth generously onto clean face and neck morning and night.
My Thoughts: I love receiving products that are more natural and organic because of my sensitive skin. I can't wait to try this moisturizer.

Recent Purchases

I've had a few purchases since the beginning of April, so I thought I'd share a few things I've bought since then. Bear with me - they're all quite random. I left out a cardigan, a few v-necks, and denim shorts - I couldn't fit them in the photo, but you're not missing too much as they're pretty basic!
First, I bought a floral print kimono with fringe at the bottom from Brickyard Buffalo. It's a type of clothing that I wouldn't normally purchase, but I'm working on building a wardrobe slowly.
The blue tank top next to it is a piece I bought from Cotton On when we were in Florida for spring break. It is so soft and has a slit at the bottom of either side.
I bought the Nikes recently because I've been at the gym and working out quite frequently and my only other tennis shoes are solely for walking around the city, going to class, etc. because I wanted to keep them clean. I just love the color of these!
On a recent trip to TJMaxx, I picked up a shower gel and cream body scrub (from The Body Shop). They smell so good. I can't get over it!
When Gary and I were at the airport in Atlanta on our way to Florida, I just had to stop at the Benefit vending machine. I couldn't resist, so I bought PosieBalm and have used it almost every day since.
I also picked up three new Essie nail polishes (from left to right) Lilacism, Waltz, and Hi Maintenance. They are all lovely colors!
When I was home one weekend, I stopped by H&M and bought these little hair bands. They are super comfortable in my hair and can hold all of my hair up without creasing it!
And most recently, I bought Revlon Lash Potion Waterproof mascara. I've only been using it for a few days, but I honestly have no idea how I lived without this mascara in my life!

Argan Oil
If there's one step of my skin care routine that I can't skip, it has to be oil. I have very dry skin, so I've been curious about trying an oil for some time now and heard good things about Argan oil. When I popped into Sephora one night, I picked up Josie Maran's 100% Pure Argan Oil in a mini size.
I apply this oil all over my face lounging around the apartment. Not only does this brighten my skin, but it also makes it very soft. Since using this oil, my complexion has completely brightened - exactly what I wanted after such dry skin through the winter months.
I use this oil all over my face, under my eyes, and on my cuticles. I've also heard you can use it to tame flyaway hairs or as a hair mask.
What step of your skin care routine can you not skip?

If I could only have 4 makeup brushes

While using my hands to apply makeup is very low-cost, I have found that using even my clean fingers is not always the best alternative when it comes to my sensitive skin. For a while now, I've been using quite a few different fuss-free brushes to apply makeup on a daily basis. However, there are four that stick out.
Base: foundation - Real Techniques Buffing Brush. Being very affordable, this brush is my go-to foundation brush. It helps to smoothly buff in foundation and is very versatile in use.
Base: concealer - Real Techniques Detailer Brush. This brush is also very affordable, like all Real Techniques, and is perfect for getting small imperfections covered.
Eyes: shadow - Sephora Precision Shadow Brush. This brush is the best eyeshadow brush I have used thus far. It can get into the corner of the eye and all over the lid cleanly.
Eyes: shadow - Sephora Blending Shadow Brush. This brush is the perfect blending brush. Slightly fluffy, this brush does a great job of blending all shadows out.
What makeup brushes can you not live without?

Apartment Inspiration
Having moved Gary into his new apartment over the weekend, I caught the decorating bug. I love looking through interior photos on Pinterest, so I thought I'd put together a little apartment inspiration collage. For my ideal apartment, I'd furnish my space with:
A cozy reading corner
A comfy bed with fairy lights
A gallery wall
A bar cart
An organized desk space

Monthly Goals/May
I've always loved the ideas of goals - something to work towards and achieve. This month my goals are:
1. Find a schedule - since I have a month off from school, I'm trying to work on finding a schedule for myself and fitting in all of the things I want to do (which is no small feat)!
2. Exercise - I've recently started yoga and have really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to working it into my daily life.
3. Plan meals - when I first moved into my apartment, I would plan meals for the two weeks ahead. Since I was all kinds of busy during the past semester, I fell out of doing it. This month, I'm really going to try extra hard to start meal planning again.
4. Photography - this month, I really want to work on the quality of my photos (and content) of my blog.
Do you have any goals for this month?

Ipsy
This month, I decided to sign up for Ipsy (you can read more about the subscription here). I have been getting a bit tired of the products in my the Birchbox's I've been receiving (plus the products from Ipsy are more affordable), so I thought I'd try out Ipsy who instead of a box, sends a makeup bag with products inside, for just $10 (this is not an advertisement, just my honest thoughts - I pay for all of this myself).
I received my first one just recently and was really surprised to see what was inside!
I wasn't too excited about the makeup bag, but I can always find a use for one. The products inside were: Starlooks lipgloss, Sophisticated & Sensual perfume, Hikari blush, hey honey Good morning honey silk facial serum, and the Balm Nude eyeshadow on Flirty.
Overall, I was really happy with my Ipsy bag this month!

Birchbox/7

Hi, everyone! I'm back today with another Birchbox peek. This month's Rifle Paper Company box is beautiful! I couldn't wait to receive my box when I heard Birchbox was teaming up with Anna Rifle Bond for this month's box.
Here's what was inside:
Beaver Professional Hydro Nutritive Moisturizing Shampoo | Full-size, $15
What: This mild cleanser delivers much-needed nourishment to repair and rebuild strands
How: Massage a quarter-sized dollop into wet hair. Rinse and follow with conditioner
My Thoughts: Although I haven't changed my shampoo in years, it can be a treat to try others sometimes. I am really excited to try this shampoo as I've heard pretty good things about it. It will be in my suitcase this weekend!
Beaver Professional Hydro Nutritive Repairing Conditioner | Full-size, $16
What: Restorative formula that strengthens dry or damaged hair, leaving it softer and smoother
How: Work through clean, damp hair, focusing on ends. Rinse well
My Thoughts: As with shampoo, I haven't changed my conditioner in years either. I'm excited to try this product this weekend.
Harvey Prince Yogini| Full-size, $55
What: This stress-dissolving scent mixes light, crisp notes of grapefruit with star jasmine
How: Apply to pulse points, take a deep breath, and enjoy a mini aromatherapy break
My Thoughts: I'm not much into perfumes or strong scents for that matter. However, this scent is so nice and therapeutic!
Jouer Tint | Full-size, $22
What: Two-in-one pigment that gives lips and cheeks a wash of creamy color
How: Dab onto lips and cheeks with fingertips. Layer for brighter color
My Thoughts: I am so so so excited about this product! I've never tried a cheek/lip tint (I know right, it's like I live under a rock), so I can't wait to try this.
LAQA & Co. Sheer Lip Lube Pencil | Full-size, $20
What: Perfect for spring, this high-gloss, semisheer lip color glides on butter-smooth
How: Swipe onto lips, and build for more pigment. Bonus: it smells minty fresh!
My Thoughts: I love the shade of this lip pencil! It's the perfect shade for my lips with a little pinch of color!

Rambling
Hi, everyone! I know I haven't posted in what seems like forever, but it will only be a little while longer! This week is my last week of classes and then next week are my final exams. After exam week and classes are over, I am going to be able to dedicate more time to blogging.
I've been really struggling this semester to do all things I want to do while maintaining my grades. I've been so overwhelmed and tired. I've felt like giving up so many times. I've shed a few tears and had a few breakdowns, but at the end of the day, I've just got to remind myself that I can do this. Most importantly, college is just a short period of my life and I should enjoy it. If you're struggling with the same thing, you got this!
" I hope you know you're capable and brave and significant. Even when it feels like you're not."

My Everyday Look - Spring Edit
My everyday Spring look is coming into full effect as the flowers are starting to bloom and the air is becoming warmer (and my allergies return). For Spring, my makeup is consisting of the dewy Nars Sheer Glow Foundation base mixed with Covergirl's Trublend foundation. For cheeks, I've been using Physician's Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Bronzer in Light with Tarte's Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush in Thrilled on the apples of my cheeks. I apply a Maybelline tattoo eyeshadow in Barely Branded (#70) to the eyelid with my finger and then add Rimmel's Bad Girl Bronze Scandal Eyes eyeshadow stick in the crease and the corner, then blended out with my finger. For the eyes, I've been using Tarte's multiplEYE prime lash enhancing primer with Lights, Camera, Lashes overtop. Lastly, I've been using a Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Pink Lemonade (#047).

Monthly Goals/April
After I made a list of goals to complete this year, I realized just how much I needed month-by-month goals to fulfill all of my goals for the year. At the beginning of each month, I'm planning on making a small post about what my goals for the month are. So, let's get started!
My goals for April may seem really cliche, maybe even stupid, but they are things that I really feel I need to work towards/on.
1. Take time for myself - because of the craziness that has been this semester, I haven't had any time to just chill out by myself and catch up on reading through blogs and watching YouTube videos like I love to do. This month, my goal is to take at least thirty minutes a night to myself during the school week to watch a few YouTube videos, read a few blog posts, or pamper myself.
2. Exercise - ever since I entered college and wasn't playing volleyball everyday, I've really struggled with exercising. I always remember feeling so good during high school because I was fitting in physical exercise every day. This month, I'm planning on focusing more on finding an exercise routine that I enjoy.
3. Eating - after Gary and I returned from vacation, I realized just how bad I've been eating. I've been so lazy with cooking because I haven't put forth enough effort to make it to the grocery store. Plus, I realized I love sweets way too much. This month, I'm going to try to balance my food diet by incorporating more meat, vegetables, and fruit.
4. Try something new - since I was probably around thirteen or fourteen, I've had this thing for calligraphy. I tried and tried when I was younger, but never really kept with it. This month, I want to buy a few supplies and take a calligraphy class.
Do you have any tips for helping me work on my goals? Leave any advice in the comments below!

Birchbox/6
I have another Birchbox peek today! I picked out the Beauty Solutions box this month. This box is one of my favorite boxes I've received so far.
March's box:
Dear Clark Volumizing Hair Tonic| Full-size, $26
Problem: Thin, flat, or tired hair that could use a rejuvenating boost.
Solution: Spritz this formula onto roots of damp hair for added bounce, lift, and shine.
My Thoughts: I love the idea of this product! It has the nicest smell and is perfect for my thick hair that has no body at the top.
derma e Evenly Radiant Brightening Day Creme SPF 15 | Full-size, $27.95
Problem: Dull complexion, uneven skin tone, or missing UV protection from your daily regimen.
Solution: Apply this antioxidant-rich cream with SPF each morning for smoother, more luminous skin.
My Thoughts: I also really like the idea of this product. I use a moisturizer for day and night, so this will give me a chance to try out a day cream.
Laura Geller Beauty Baked Blush-n-Brighten| Full-size, $27.50
Problem: Post-winter paleness or cheekbones that want extra oomph.
Solution: Sweep on this multihued blush and highlighter combo for a healthy, natural-looking flush.
My Thoughts: The color of this baked blush is really intimidating to me because of my fair skin. However, I'm looking forward to trying it out!
Supergoop! Advanced SPF 37 Anti-Aging Eye Cream| Full-size, $45
Problem: Undereye area showing signs of aging (and lack of sleep).
Solution: Dab on a pea-sized amount of this brightening, peptide-packaged anti-aging cream.
My Thoughts: I love eye creams, but right now this is the last thing I need in my box. I received one two boxes ago and haven't managed to even come close to finishing it.
Whish Three Whishes Body Butter - Almond | Full-size, $24
Problem: Skin that's rough, itchy, or just plain dry - and majorly in need of moisture.
Solution: Smooth this luscious, antioxidant-rich hydrator onto skin after showering.
My Thoughts: This stuff smells so good! It was one of the first things in my suitcase while packing last week.

Birchbox/5
I'm back again today with another Birchbox!
February's box:
Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle | Full-size, $21.95
What: Best-selling elixir that locks in color, protects from heat damage, and adds silkiness.
How: Spray generously onto damp hair before styling. Warning: Their signature scent is addictive.
My Thoughts: I was so excited to see this product in my box. Although I don't like the look of the packaging, the scent of this product is amazing! It genuinely does help detangle.
BeeKind Shampoo | Full-size, $16
What: Made with moisturizing honey extract, this cleanser leaves hair soft and shiny.
How: Work through damp hair, rinse, and follow with conditioner.
My Thoughts: Although I'm pretty stuck on the shampoo and conditioners I use, I think receiving a sample size of shampoo is great. With an upcoming spring break trip next week, this shampoo will definitely be on my packing list.
CoTZ Face Natural Skin Tone SPF 40 | Full-size, $20
What: Oil-free, mineral sunscreen that bends in sheer for a matte finish.
How: Fifteen minutes before stepping outside, smooth a nickel-sized amount over face and neck.
My Thoughts: This is not one of my favorite things to receive. Because I have such fair skin, it is very difficult to find a shade of any kind of product that matches my skin. The product comes out really dark, is somewhat slippy, and then dries matte.
Cynthia Rowley Beauty Creamy Lip Stain - Poppy| Full-size, $20
What: A long-wearing stain from the NYC-based designer that gives unbeatable moisture and shine.
How: Sweep over lips with the applicator wand. Repeat for a heavier dose of pigment.
My Thoughts: This was an interesting product in my box. I'm not usually one to wear bright lip colors, but this shade of lip stain has totally drawn me in. I am definitely going to wear this out soon.
TOCCA Crema da Mano - Cleopatra | Full-size, $10-$20
What: Loaded with natural botanicals, this grapefruit and cucumber lotion absorbs in a flash.
How: Rub generously into hands - and anywhere you need a moisture boost.
My Thoughts: As usual, I always love receiving any kind of hand lotion/cream. I use them up so quickly!

Better than Luxury Eyeshadow Sticks
I've been in the market for eyeshadow sticks for quite a while, but have never been brave enough to spend $17+ on one. I began Googling drugstore eyeshadow sticks and stumbled upon Rimmel's Scandal Eyes Cream Eyeshadow Sticks/Crayons. Oh my gosh, you guys! These are amazing. Seriously. For just $3 each, these are such a great alternative to more pricey eyeshadow sticks. I bought 011 Bluffing, 014 Bootleg Brown, 003 Bad Girl Bronze (from left to right in the photo above). These three shades combined create the perfect smokey eye. I am so impressed with these because of their lasting power, color pay off, and blend-ability. The sticks are so creamy and you can blend them with your fingers if you're on-the-go. Once blended and let set for a few minutes, I've found that they last for at least eleven hours (I use an eyeshadow primer underneath for extra long lasting power).
Have you tried Rimmel's shadow sticks?

Taking time
I have to admit, I'm the worst at taking time for myself these days. Between school, interning, working, and schoolwork, I haven't been able to find any balance. For example, I felt guilty last week when I came home from class and painted my nails because I knew there was something I could be working on that was due in a few days. I have been neglecting things that I like doing such as blogging, scrapbooking, cooking, being outdoors, and reading. The list goes on. I just don't have time.
I realized when I came back to Birmingham from being home all weekend just how continually stressed and tired I am because I never do anything I enjoy doing. Yes, I really enjoy and take pride in working and I really love my internship and my classes, but I need time to relax and not have to think so critically all the time. Two weekends ago, Gary and I ran a few errands and then binge watched Homeland all day and it was the best day ever. I need more days like that.
So, I am thinking about setting some goals for myself every week about incorporating more things I love doing into my daily life.
Please let me know if you have any ideas or tips in the comments below!

Bronzing
I've recently been into this whole bronzing thing after noticing just how un-alive I've looked all winter. I was using a bronzer from Rimmel, but I realized it was too orange for my skin tone. However, on one of my weekly trips to Target, I found Physician's Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Bronzer in Light. This bronzer lasts a good amount of the day and is the perfect bronzer for my fair skin tone. The bronzer is not one bit orange - just purely and subtly adding color to the skin. I use this bronzer with my Real Techniques contour brush which really helps focus the product to the cheekbones.

Boscia Cleansing Oil
Hi, everyone! I'm here to share one of the best products I've used in a long time - Boscia MakeUp-BreakUp Cool Cleansing Oil. I'm sure you've probably heard about this or walked by it in Sephora, but I thought that I should either remind you about it if you've seen it before, or introduce it to you if you've never heard of it.
I found Boscia in the beauty world of YouTube. YouTubers talk about this stuff all the time, so I couldn't not try it, right? I picked up the smaller size (1.7 oz) mid-December and quickly used it all up. Once I got back to Birmingham for school, I stopped by Sephora and bought the larger 5 oz. size. No regrets. This cleansing oil is meant to dissolve makeup and impurities while refreshing the skin.
I take this on clean hands every night before I take a shower and rub it into my full makeup face (even around my eyes). The oil dissolves the makeup and you can see it start coming up off of the skin. Then I take a warm, wet washcloth and remove all the oil (and makeup). It's the most soothing part of my nightly skin routine and I don't think I'll be stopping it anytime soon.
Have you tried Boscia's Cleansing Oil?

Birchbox/4

Hi, everyone! I'm finally back after what has been the busiest month of my life. I've been trying to figure out my schedule with working, interning, going to class, and having a social life. So, here I am!
This month, I signed up to receive the "Relax & Recharge" Box.January's Birchbox:
Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream | Full-size, $38
What: Antiaging multitasker that conquers wrinkles and dark circles from the get-go.
How: Dab a pea-sized amount along undereye contour, steering clear of lash line.
My Thoughts: I love eye creams, so I was so excited to see this was in my box!
Briogeo Don't Despair! Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask | Full-size, $26
What: Hydrating mask that restores and strengthens with a blend of naturally derived ingredients.
How: After shampooing, work through hair. Wait 3-5 minutes (or even up to 20), then rinse.
My Thoughts: I was also really excited to see this product in my box. I've never really used a hair mask before, so I'm enjoying trying this out.
Manna Kadar Lip Locked - All of Me | Full-size, $24
What: All-in-one lip primer, stain, and gloss that's loaded with vitamins and berry extracts.
How: Sweep onto lips for long-lasting, no-fuss color - so you can enjoy the day in style.
My Thoughts: I was a little bit worried about this product when I first spotted it in my box. I'm not much of a lip gloss/stick/color wear-er. I'm more of a chapstick kind of gal, but I did try this on my lips and it feels very nice and not sticky at all.
Perlier Intensive Nurturing Body Balm - Shea Lavender | Full-size, $28.45
What: From the Italian skincare brand, this richly nourishing cream smooths and softens.
How: Massage the velvety treatment into skin, focusing on dry spots.
My Thoughts: I love this stuff! I've been using it quite frequently. I love spotting any kind of lotion/body balm because it's something I use daily and the smaller sizes make it easy to throw in my backpack or purse.
When Travelmate Sheet Mask | Set of 4 Masks, $28
What: This mask, made of eco-friendly coconut fibers, soothes and nourishes for a healthy glow.
How: Apply to clean face. After 20 minutes, remove mask and massage in extra serum into skin.
My Thoughts: I thought this was a really neat product to receive in a Birchbox. I've never tried a sheet mask before, so I'm really excited to try out this one!
Bonus: TeaPigs Tea Temples

Dreams & Schemes
There's nothing like a new notebook. Can I get an amen? I love notebooks and every time I find one I like, I instantly buy it with no reservations. There's just something about a freshly lined notebook with no marks, just new paper waiting to be written on.

12 Days of Tarte
I wanted to share with you all a gift I received from my parents for Christmas. They gave me a gift set by Tarte called 12 Days of Tarte. I didn't take a picture of the box the gift set came in because I was way too excited and just tore open the box, so all I have left are the products! The box came with so many good mini-sizes I almost exploded with happiness.
The gift set came with Maracuja Oil, Lights, Camera, Flashes Mascara, Amazonian Clay 12-hour blush in Thrilled, Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara, Multipleye Prime Lash Enhancing Primer, Maracuja C-Brighter Eye Treatment, Lipsurgence in Wishful, Amazonian Clay Double Detox Facial Mask, Brazilliance Skin Rejuvenating Maracuja Self Tanning Face Towelette, Park Ave Princess Maracuja Rainforest Glow, Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder, and Clean Slate Poreless 12-hr Perfecting Primer.
This was one of my favorite gifts this year. I have yet to try them all. I love Tarte and their products are so great (especially in mini size)!
